our carbon commitment

Moshi joined Stripe Climate. A percentage of our revenue now funds permanent carbon removal, powered by Frontier. See our pledge at climate.stripe.com/moshi.

how it works

Stripe Climate lets any business commit a fraction of revenue to carbon removal. The money flows to Frontier, an advance market commitment started by Stripe, Alphabet, Shopify, Meta, and McKinsey in 2022. The goal: purchase $1B+ of permanent carbon removal by 2030.

Frontier's team of 50+ technical reviewers vets each supplier. Removal has to last 1,000+ years, have a realistic path to under $100/ton, and be independently verifiable. Direct air capture, enhanced rock weathering, biomass injection, ocean-based methods. If it doesn't meet the bar, it doesn't get funded.

When Frontier started, fewer than 10,000 tons of CO2 had ever been permanently removed by new technologies. That's about a million times short of what we need annually. The bottleneck isn't science. It's demand. Nobody builds a factory without customers.

why

Carbon has natural cycles. The planet has always moved carbon around. Nobody's arguing with that. But the rate matters. When you dump centuries of stored carbon into the atmosphere in a few decades, ecosystems that evolved around slow cycles can't keep up. Coral bleaches. Soil dries out. Fire seasons get longer. The carbon itself isn't the villain. The speed is.

We think about this the same way we think about AI. Intelligence isn't new. Humans have been building tools that think for a long time. But when you accelerate it.. things break in ways nobody predicted. Systems that worked fine at one speed fall apart at another. Acceleration without awareness is how you get disorder. Same with carbon, same with AI, same with anything that moves faster than the systems around it can adapt.

We build AI agents for commerce. Cloud compute, model inference, API calls all day. That has a carbon cost and we'd rather be upfront about it than pretend the electricity comes from nowhere.

Traditional carbon offsets have a credibility problem. You pay someone not to cut down a tree. The tree burns. The soil releases what it stored. Frontier only funds removal that lasts 1,000+ years. Mineralized CO2 doesn't un-mineralize.

We commit revenue. Frontier's team picks the suppliers. The money goes to real tons removed. That's it.

the suppliers

The portfolio includes Charm Industrial (they inject bio-oil underground for permanent storage), Heirloom (limestone-based direct air capture), Lithos (crushed basalt spread on farmland that absorbs CO2 as it weathers), and a bunch of others. Most of these companies didn't exist five years ago.

the math

Carbon removal is expensive. Hundreds of dollars per ton for some methods. But so was solar in 2005. Costs drop when buyers show up. Frontier is a bet that if enough companies commit revenue now, the whole field gets cheaper faster.

We're small. Our commitment is small. But we'd rather put money toward something that works for 1,000 years than something that works until the next wildfire.

If you use Stripe, you can do this too. Stripe Climate is a few clicks in your dashboard.

Every payment Moshi processes contributes to carbon removal. If you're a Moshi customer, you're part of this.

Moshi will contribute 0.25% of your purchase to remove CO₂ from the atmosphere with Stripe Climate
